Full Day at the Pyramids, Memphis, and Sakkara RHPT001

Starting at 6:00 am

It is impossible to get tired of the pyramids. You will visit one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The three pyramids are:
  •   The Pyramid of Khufu (Great Pyramid) built by King Cheops in c. 2650 BC
  •   The Pyramid of Khafre built by King Chephren south west of his father Cheops
  •   The Pyramid of Menkaure built by King Mycerinus (Menkaure) son of Chephren
The Sphinx: "Sacred symbol of the union of the strongest physical with the highest intellectual power on earth."– Harriet Martineau.
The Solar Boat of King Cheops: A cedar-wood craft built to take the pharaoh on his journey to the afterworld.

Visit another attractive sight in Giza: Memphis and Sakkara.
You will see the step pyramid in Sakkara, which was a royal burial-ground during the Old Kingdom (2705–2155 BC). There are so many periods that show that Sakkara could almost be a book, in whose pages the story of Egyptian civilization through the Pharaonic, Greek, and Roman periods is told. Discoveries are still being made today.
The Step Pyramid: The first proper pyramid. It was built for King Zoser in the 27thcentury BC by the architect Imhotep.
The Pyramid of Unas: Noted for its funerary chamber covered with mortuary literature called the Pyramid Texts.
The Serapeum: Famous for the tombs of the sacred bull Apis.
King Menes built Memphis, the oldest capital of Egypt, and you will also see the colossal statue of Ramses II, the most beautiful representation of him, exhibited in the museum and the temple for embalming the sacred bull Apis and the Alabaster Sphinx.

Full Day at Alexandria  RHPT006

Trip starts at 8:30 am

Visit the second largest city in Egypt, Alexandria. It has an atmosphere that is more Mediterranean than Middle Eastern; its ambience and cultural heritage distance it from the rest of the country although it is only 225 km from Cairo. It was founded by Alexander the Great in 331 BC.

You will get to visit Pompey’s Pillar, which is a 25 m high red granite column, which was constructed in honor of the Emperor Diocletian. Other remains include two pink granite sphinxes. Nearby are subterranean galleries, where the sacred Apis bulls were buried.

The Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa: This warren of tombs, on three levels, also houses the triclinium, where relatives used to sit on stone benches, and a central tomb with reliefs of bearded serpents. Inside are 2nd century statues of Sobek and Anubis wearing Roman armor.

The Alexandria National Museum: It was inaugurated by President Hosni Mubarak on 31 December 2003 and is one more reason one should visit this grand old city. The national museum is located in a restored palace and contains about 1,800 artifacts that narrate the history of Alexandria throughout the ages, including the Pharaonic, Roman, Coptic, and Islamic eras .

Continue our tour to visit Mosque Square, the most important historical mosque in Alexandria, Egypt, as well as a very beautiful one. It is considered to be that of Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi. Constructed in 1775 by Algerians, it was built over the tomb of the thirteenth century Murcian-Andalusian Saint, Ahmed Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi (Abu'l 'Abbas), who joined and then lead, as a devout Sufi, the Shadhali brotherhood. Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi is himself a very interesting story.

Do not miss the El Alamein Museum, which has five main halls representing the countries that participated in El Alamein Battle and one hall displaying the weapons and tanks used in the war.
