Dr. Ruth Mbabazi is a Research Associate with the World Technology Access Program in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at Michigan State University (MSU). The WorldTAP is a capacity building and technology transfer program. Dr. Mbabazi is interested in working with African countries to streamline policies and regulations governing the seed systems and to strengthen the seed sector. She has experience in agriculture policy, regulation and technology transfer with over 13 years of experience in science and technology policy formulation and biotechnology product development. She holds a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Queensland University of Technology, Australia. Ruth has expertise in stewardship and biosafety systems working with biotechnology product development projects in Africa. She is a member of water maize efficient for Africa (WEMA) biosafety regulatory and stewardship team of the Uganda National Agricultural Research Organization. She has interacted with representatives from more than 20 governments and supported capacity building initiatives in the area of biosafety, biotechnology and technology transfer. She is currently coordinating the transfer of Herbicide Tolerant Soybean technology developed at MSU to Uganda to be tried at Makerere University and the National Agricultural Research Institute, Uganda.
