Agentic AI for Education and Research: A Strategic Roadmap for the Arab Region: Applications, Impact and Responsible Adoption

Abstract

Agentic AI is an emerging paradigm of artificial intelligence that enables systems to perceive, reason, plan, and act autonomously to accomplish complex goals. By combining advanced machine learning models with memory, tools, and decision-making capabilities, AI agents are transforming research, education, healthcare, industry, and public services.

In education and research, AI agents support personalized learning, intelligent tutoring, academic advising, literature analysis, and scientific discovery, enhancing productivity and accessibility. Their adoption offers significant opportunities for innovation, workforce development, and knowledge creation. Realizing this potential, however, requires responsible implementation supported by open science practices, ethical governance, transparency, privacy protection, and human oversight. The advancement of Agentic AI presents a strategic opportunity to strengthen research and education ecosystems and accelerate innovation across the Arab region.
