The Nobel Section

Located on the third floor (F3) of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA), it is dedicated to serving scholars and researchers. The Nobel Section comprises the Nobel Room, the Gad Rausing Auditorium and the Söderberg Lounge. It is furnished with a replica of the furniture and lighting designed specially for the Nobel Institute in Stockholm (opened in 1918) and for the meeting room of the Swedish Cabinet. The furniture at BA was manufactured in cherry wood to the exact specifications of the first designs, though the computer stands outside are based on the Snøhetta furniture designs for BA.

NOBEL ROOM

The Nobel room is the access point for researchers interested in literature. It's a magnificent reading room comprising book collections of Nobel Prize Laureates in Literature from 1901-2001. The bookcases are filled with selections of these literary works written in their own winners' original language, with translations into mainly Arabic, English and French.

This collection of books by Nobel Laureates' was the result of a request from Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak to the Scandinavian Committee to make available a Nobel Room for the Bibliotheca Alexandria.

GAD RAUSING AUDITORIUM:

The Auditorium is named after the Swedish Rausing family, who offered great financial support to establish the Nobel Section at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.

THE SÖDERBERG LOUNGE

Named after the Söderberg family, who also funded the Nobel Section, here users can access the Nobel e-Museum stored in databases on two computers. It is a virtual museum consisting of digital information about Prizes awarded since 1901, Alfred Nobel and his life, the Nobel Foundation, the Prize-awarding institutions and much more.
