Plaza of Civilization
The Plaza of Culture, the BACC, the Planetarium and the main Library are interconnected and overlook the corniche. It is planted with olive trees, providing a powerful symbol of peace, tolerance, rationality, understanding, and dialogue.

The Plaza of Culture has works of art and statuary. The statuary illustrations are of a soaring statue of “Prometheus bearing fire”, standing amidst the olive trees; the colossus of Ptolemy II, salvaged from the Mediterranean, at the entrance next to the Conference Center; and a bust of Alexander the Great, outside the entrance to the Conference Center.
The Plaza is a place of reflection but it is also used for cultural events, especially during the summer for outdoor performances or exhibitions and on special occasions.
