Center
for
Special Studies
and Programs
Background and History
The most famous among all ancient and medieval
libraries was the Library of Alexandria.
Even after its disappearance 1600 years ago, it continues to survive
in the memory of all scholars to this day. Not only was it the largest
in all antiquity, but it was also a vibrant center of scientific and
intellectual debate. At present, the new
Bibliotheca Alexandrina is looking to revive its past historical
scientific mission through the launching of the Center for Special
Studies and Programs (CSSP) with the aim of fostering research in
designated vital scientific branches so it can be recognized again
by scientists all over the world as one of the best global linkage
venues to eminent researchers and scientific institutions.
Who we are
The CSSP, established by the Egyptian Presidential
Decree no. 361 of 2002 is an independent scientific non-profit institution
affiliated to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) and chaired by the
BA Director. The CSSP has its own director and selected Board of
Directors. It is quartered in the world famous complex, Bibliotheca
Alexandrina, in the beautiful Mediterranean city of Alexandria,
Egypt.
Mission and Vision
The CSSP aims to play a significant role in the
progress of science and technology in Egypt. The CSSP will help
researchers and scientists to get the best support needed to advance
their work through international collaborations.
Goals and Objectives
- To fund outstanding young postdoctoral scientists in Egypt,
who perform cutting edge research and undertake collaborative
investigation approaches across the science and technology spectrum.
- To promote science, education and public awareness by devising
a highly proactive science communications program comprising high-caliber
international conferences, meetings, lectures, workshops and exhibitions
aimed at specialists and non-specialists.
- To act as a catalyst for the progress of Science in Egypt by
receiving and analyzing data on national scientific and technical
resources.
- To act as a HUB by creating and sustaining a network of international
collaboration while remaining a virtual center.
- To create, inspire and make effective use of talented students
among Egyptian schools and universities.
- To increase the participation of the under-represented in science
and technology (e.g. women and researchers in small governorates).
