The Academy of Sciences for the Developing World TWAS is calling for nomination for the TWAS Prizes 2006.
The prizes are awarded to individual scientists from developing countries in recognition of outstanding contributions in each of the following fields of science biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, agricultural sciences, earth engineering, and medical sciences. Each prize consists of US$10.000 and accompanied by a plaque inscribed with the recipients major contributions that are presented on a special occasion, often coinciding with the TWAS general meeting.
Candidates must be nationals of developing countries, working and living in the South.
NOMINATIONS
TWAS is inviting nominations from all its members as well as science academies, national research councils, universities and scientific institutions in developing and developed countries. Self nominations will not be considered
Nominations should be submitted on the relevant nomination form for 2006 and clearly state the contributions which the candidate has made towards the development of the particular field of science for which the prize would be awarded, and should be accompanied by a complete list of the nominee’s publications.
Selection of the awardees is made solely on scientific merit, the selection committee will pay particular attention to:
· The total impact of the nominee’s work on the present state of science in his/her field of research;
· Achievements of an unusually significant nature in relation to the potential effects of such achievements on the developments of scientific thoughts;
· Recognition by peers within the scientific community;
· Contributions to innovation, industry and human welfare in developing countries.
