Overview
In an endeavor to preserve the digital heritage for future generations and promote universal access to human knowledge, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina has recently founded the International School of Information Science (ISIS).
The mission of ISIS is to be the focal point where scholars from around the globe will group to study and develop new technologies in the field of information. ISIS also aims to join hands with other IT centers from around the world in digital projects for Egypt, using state-of-the-art technology to carry out pioneering IT ideas for the benefit of the Egyptian society. The school will act as an incubator for digital and technological projects promoting and nurturing innovations, which view the encompassing aims of the BA as an end goal.
Together with the BA staff and the different BA departments, the school will be initiating, developing, researching and implementing new ideas. Its structure is based on projects where staff are either seconded from the ICT Department or hired specifically for the particular projects. Once the project is in the production phase, it becomes part of the mainstream of the BA department concerned, and technical support provided by the ICT Department.
The school has already created partnership and adopted a number of major projects in accordance with the BA mission.
