Borrowing Library Materials
Frequently Asked Questions about borrowing library
material:
Can all kinds of library material be borrowed?
Currently you can only borrow books, excluding the
non-circulated books (labeled NC) and all the reference material
(Encyclopedias, Dictionaries, Atlases, etc.) (Labeled R). The library
is also excluding the audiovisual material (video cassettes, tapes, etc.)
from circulation.
How can I borrow material?
All you need is to obtain a personal library card,
and then check with the Young People's Library’s Information Desk
to check out the book you require.
How many books can I borrow and for how long?
You can borrow one book at a time and the
standard loan period is two weeks for all circulated books.
What if the book I want is checked out?
You can register for a request item to reserve a
checked-out book. When the book is returned, we will hold it
for you and notify you by e-mail or phone, or you can check the
status of your requests online, if it is available. To submit a hold
request for a book, you can contact us by phone or by e-mail,
and a librarian will gladly assist you.
How can I renew my borrowed item?
Borrowing items can be renewed, for a second loan
period, if they are not "requested" by another patron.
Renewals are requested in person or via contacting
us by phone or mail.
Overdue material may not be renewed by phone, but
may be renewed after the fine is paid.
How do I pay for delayed, lost or damaged material?
The amount is paid at the Young People's Library Information
Desk.
Delayed Material
Fees for delayed materials are 25 piasters/day.
Lost and Damaged Material
If an item is damaged or lost,
the cardholder will be charged the price of the item plus 30% of
the lost item value as a fine
