Misr El-Kheir Foundation (MEK) is a non-profit organization established in 2007. Through its initiative of establishing 10 technical specialized clusters, MEK aims at having qualified, specialized, and competitive Egyptian graduates capable of invading the local and international work field. In addition, it established a technical university that paves the educational path to the doctoral degree.


Support to Higher Education


MEK has signed a number of protocols with different international and local institutes to provide educational scholarships for Egyptian students in various fields.
Type of Support

Scholarships


• Technical Scholarship in Italy
This scholarship program provided the opportunity so far for 325 students who have obtained their preparatory certificate to pursue their interest in technical education further and obtain a diploma from Italian Technical Institutes in Calabria.

• Technical Scholarship in France
This scholarship program offers learning opportunities for 30 Egyptians per year. It provides the opportunity for 5 Egyptian students, who have obtained their Secondary certificate, to pursue their interest in technical education and obtain a technical license in the field of agriculture through studying at The Centre of Vocational Training and Agriculture Promotion “CFPPA Angers Le Fresne” in France. The remaining 25 students will be provided with French Language courses in Egypt.

• Nile University Scholarship
This scholarship program provides financial support to 50 outstanding students to pursue their postgraduate studies in the technical fields starting from the academic year 2013 – 2014 at Nile University (NU).

• MOT Scholarship
This program is designed by Nile University to offer postgraduate studies covering theoretical foundations and practical applications in Management of technology (MOT), in which enrollers will be equipped with the necessary skills related to managing technology resources at the macro-level of the country as well as the micro-level of organizations.

Training


Qualifying Program: This program provides training opportunity to 25 postgraduate students from governmental universities in the faculty of Science, Engineering, Agriculture, and Social Studies to enrich their research experience and develop their competitive capabilities to get educational scholarship abroad. In addition to providing advisory services to advise and direct those students on how to search, register, and get good scholarship opportunities abroad. The program also provides some additional financial contributions to the students at their application stage to the international programs in addition to the students’ associated travel cost and visa issuance fees.

Supplemental Program: This program offers partial tuition or living scholarship opportunities to outstanding postgraduate students with high leadership potential to pursue their MSc or Ph.D. degrees abroad in the fields of Agriculture, Engineering, Sciences, and Social Studies. Applicants must have secured scholarships from host institution or other funding agency to be supplemented by the program.

Loans


Misr El Kheir Foundation announced for the year 2013/2014 a new “Student Loan Program” that provides loans to Egyptian students who desire to continue their studies in Egypt or abroad and cannot afford paying their tuition fees. The program aims at eventually financing technical, undergraduate and graduate programs; in its first phase (AY 2013), it envisions to cover 10 candidates for the spring and fall semester of 2013 of individuals who desire to obtain a graduate degree. The loan can cover the following:
• Tuition fees of the Academic Program.
• Living expenses, accommodation rentals, and travel expenses (if the program is not based in the area of residence).
• The loan will be minus other financial aids.
• An administrative cost is added to the loan, which is 1% of the amount of the loan.
• The loan will be given to the students based on installments for each semester, and the student is required to send MEK a copy of the receipt.
• The loans are per academic year, and contracts could be renewed upon approval of MEK.
• Student must maintain a GPA of 2.8 and must not fail a course, in order to continue receiving loans from MEK.

Repayment Plans are categorized by the amount of the loan as follows:
• 30,000 to 60,000 L.E.: Amount to be reimbursed to MEK over 3 years.
• 60,000 to 90,000 L.E. Amount to be reimbursed to MEK over 5 years.
• 90,000 to 150,000 L.E. Amount to be reimbursed to MEK over 7 years.

A grace period of 1 year will be given to full-time students after completion of the degree, and then the student will have to pay according to the repayment plan. In case the student does not pay, the guarantor should be asked to pay the requested amount from MEK. Part-time students will be required to repay during their studies.

Loans


The duration varies according to the requested amount of the loan. It ranges from 3 to 7 years.
Eligibility Criteria

Scholarships


• Technical Scholarship in Italy, applicants must:
o be Egyptian citizens.
o be aged maximum 16 years old.
o have obtained Preparatory Certificate with a minimum average 80%.
o obtain the Institutional TOEFL English Test with a minimum score of 350.

• Technical Scholarship in France, applicants must:
o be Egyptian citizens.
o be aged from 17 to 19 years old.
o have obtained a Secondary Certificate with a minimum average 80%.
o speak the French Language.
o pass the French competition handled by the Institut Francais d’Egypte, the interview panel, and the psychometric assessment.

• Nile University Scholarship and MOT Scholarship, applicants must:
o be Egyptian citizens.
o be graduate from a recognized university in engineering, science or business with a minimum average grade of “good”.
o have minimum experience of 2 years in technology commercialization. Preference will be given to those with entrepreneurial experience or who worked at research centers.
o present a minimum score of 500 or above in paper-based TOEFL Institutional TOEFL administered by AMIDEAST.
o be recommended for admission by the interviewers and the NU admission committee.

Training


Applicants must:
• be Egyptian citizens.
• be graduates from national universities with a minimum average grade of “very good” in the fields of engineering, agriculture, sciences, and social sciences.
• have received either:
o their Bachelor degree and looking to be enrolled in a Master program scholarship.
o their Master degree and looking to be enrolled in a Ph.D. program scholarship.
• have obtained a minimum institutional TOEFL (Local) Score of 500 from AMIDEAST.

Grants


Applicants must:
• be Egyptian citizens.
• be enrolled in a Master’s degree program in one of eligible fields at high ranked institution.
• be national university graduates with a minimum cumulative grade of “very good”.
• have secured scholarships from host institution or other funding agency to be supplemented by the Foundation.

Loans


Applicants must:
• be Egyptian citizens.
• have acceptance or enrollment letter from academic program.
• have a guarantor who is willing to guarantee the applicant.
• hold a Bachelor Degree with a minimum average grade of “good” or its equivalent.

o soft copies of 2 personal photos.
o a scanned copy of the Secondary certificate.
o a scanned copy of national ID.
o a scanned copy of a valid passport.

• Nile University Scholarship and MOT Scholarship, applicants must fill out an online application at www.nileuniversity.edu.eg and e-mail it to : admission@nileuniversity.edu.eg OR visit Nile University Admissions Office Smart Village, B2 Cairo-Alex Desert Road, Km 28, Giza, Egypt. The application file should include the following documents:
o 2 copies of all university level-degrees.
o 2 copies of all university transcripts.
o a minimum score of 500 or above in paper-based TOEFL, administrated by AMIDEAST.
o 2 copies of recent CV.
o copy of an official ID.
o four recent passport-size photographs.
o recommendation letters.
o application fee of EGP 200 (nonrefundable).
