The 4th Annual International Wikimedia Conference- Wikimania 2008
During the period from the 17th to the 19th of July 2008, Bibliotheca Alexandrina has co-organized and hosted the Fourth Annual Wikimedia Conference, Wikimania 2008. The conference, which was a joint endeavor between the Wikimedia Foundation and the Library, acted as a gathering place of wiki-interested parties from around the world to gather in order to discuss various wiki projects, their possible evolution and to brainstorm about free educational content. The conference included many notable speakers, such as Ahmed N. Tantawy, the Technical Director of IBM in the Middle East; Eliane Metni, the founding director of the International Education Association; Tim Spalding, the founder and lead developer of LibraryThing; and Usama Fayyad, Yahoo!''''''''''''''''s executive vice president of Research & Strategic Data Solutions. Over the 3 days, more than 70 talks were given and more than 600 participants attended the conference
