  • Keywords: health services, scientific facilities, disease control, tuberculosis, moldova, mongolia, uganda, zimbabwe
This study evaluated how scrutinising the information recorded in the TB Laboratory Register can assist in improving the performance of the microscopy laboratory network and TB case management. Tuberculosis (TB) microscopy networks in Moldova, Mongolia, Uganda and Zimbabwe were studied.

Evidence-based approach to the maintenance of laboratory and medical equipment in resource-poor settings

Malkin, Robert and Keane, Allison | 2010
  • Author(s): Malkin, Robert and Keane, Allison
  • Publisher: Springer]
  • Pages: 721--726
  • Keywords: health services, scientific facilities, medical supplies, training programmes
Much of the medical equipment in resource-poor settings is out-of-service because of the lack of trained professionals able to execute the needed repairs or maintenance. This study investigated if technicians training designed for a resource-rich setting is appropriate for a resource-poor setting.

The role of total quality management in raising the service quality of public health laboratories in developing countries

Total Quality Management, as described in this thesis, calls for better management of available resources and a service-wide, comprehensive quality improvement led by central health planners.

Role of secondary level laboratories in strengthening quality at primary level health facilities' laboratories : an innovative approach to ensure accurate HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria test results in resource-limited settings

Manyazewal, T. | 2013
  • Author(s): Manyazewal, T.

  • Keywords: malaria, tuberculosis, aids, health services, medical research, quality control, ethiopia
Study was aimed to assess diagnostic performances of primary level laboratories. Results proved that secondary laboratories could play a vital role in assuring laboratory qualities at health centres, without depending on remotely located national and regional laboratories for this support.

New approach to in-service training of laboratory professionals in sub-Saharan Africa

Marinucci, Francesco | 2011
  • Author(s): Marinucci, Francesco
  • Publisher: Federation of biomedical laboratory science (IFBLS)

  • Keywords: human resources, health personnel, scientific facilities, health services
A major concern in scaling-up health programs in Sub-Saharan Africa is the lack of quality laboratory services. This is mainly due to the limited availability of well-trained laboratory personnel in both technical and managerial areas. This article describes a new approach to in-service training.
