Abstract: Violence in schools is detrimental to all children and especially so for the youngest; it is hurtful to them in the present and brutalises them for the future. The Human Dignity programme addresses the problem of violence in schools, not through authoritarian sanctions, but through a positive process of cultural change within schools. This paper is based on the experiences of nine elementary schools in Israel, that were revisited one year after their Human Dignity programmes came to an end.
