What You DO NOT Know about Hurricanes and Climate Change

Within the framework of Simplified Science Program, the Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP) and TWAS-ARO organized a lecture entitled "What You Do Not Know about Hurricanes and Climate Change".

The lecture was delivered by Dr. Hesham M. El-Askary, Professor of Remote Sensing and Earth System Science, Center of Excellence in Earth Systems Modeling and Observations and Director Graduate Programs in Computational and Data Sciences at Schmid College of Science and Technology, Chapman University, United States of America, on Saturday, 7 October 2017 at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.

In this lecture, Dr. El-Askary answered the simple questions of what is a hurricane, and how does it form and whether or not countries as Egypt and other countries in the Middle East and North Africa region will ever be affected by a hurricane?


Genomes, Metagenomes, and Microbiomes: Shaping the Biology of The Current Millennium Lecture

The Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP) in collaboration with The World Academy of Sciences for the advancement of science in developing countries' Arab Regional Office (TWAS-ARO), organized "Genomes, Metagenomes, and Microbiomes: Shaping the Biology of The Current Millennium" Lecture, on Thursday, 14 September 2017.  

The lecture was presented by Prof. Ramy Karam Aziz, Professor and Acting Chair, Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Faculty of Pharmacy, Cairo University.

The Lecture was organized within the framework of "Simplified Science Program" that provides series of scientific lectures aiming at introducing peaking and newly emerging fields of science to the public audience in a simplified way.

"Sustainability in Food and Water: An Arab Viewpoint" Conference, Dead Sea, Jordan

TWAS-ARO held its 12th  Annual Meeting on 18-19 December 2016. This was the first meeting to be held outside Alexandria at the Dead Sea, Jordan.   http://www.bibalex.org/CSSPNewsletter/Images/sustainability.jpg

On the occasion of the annual meeting, a conference tackled food security and water scarcity in the Arab region, was held under the theme: "Sustainability in Food and Water: An Arab Viewpoint" on the occasion of the TWAS-ARO 12th Annual Meeting.

The conference discussed the correlation between the water and food, how to build sustainable systems and frameworks, as well as how to strengthen the networks among the policy makers and scientific committees. It addressed the way Food and Water sustainability improves human well-being, environmental maintenance and food and water saving resources.

The conference was held under the patronage of HRH Prince El-Hassan bin Talal who addressed to the conference attendees a Keynote Speech at the opening session.

"Green Economy: A Road Map for Sustainable Development and Poverty Reduction in the Arab Region" Conference

The World Academy of Sciences for the advancement of science in developing countries' Arab Regional Office (TWAS-ARO) will hold its 11th Annual Meeting, 16-17 December 2015, at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. On the occasion of its annual meeting, an inter-disciplinary forum on green economy will be held titled: Green Economy: A Road Map for Sustainable Development and Poverty Reduction in the Arab Region.

This forum intends to bring together TWAS-ARO members and young affiliates, along with other distinguished speakers, to discuss the implementation of Green Economy to overcome the barriers faced by the society especially the developing ones. It will also address how the Green Economy improves the human wellbeing while saving environmental risks and ecological scarcities.

TWAS-ARO is continuing its support for young Arab researchers by holding a poster session
, to showcase their researches. TWAS-ARO will sponsor 10 outstanding young researchers, from different Arab countries, to present their projects on the use of green economy to maintain sustainable development.

"Research and Innovation for Sustainable Development in the Arab Region" Conference

The World Academy of Sciences for the advancement of science in developing countries' Arab Regional Office (TWAS-ARO) held its 10th Annual Meeting, 29-30 December 2014, at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. On the occasion of its annual meeting, an inter-disciplinary forum on Research and Innovation was held under the theme: Research and Innovation for Sustainable Development in the Arab Region .

This forum intended to bring together TWAS-ARO members and young affiliates, along with other distinguished speakers, to share their scientific career experience and present their organizations / institutes / universities to the conference participants through a presentation under the theme; "My Institution; My Experience".

The aim of the conference was to illuminate to young researchers the success stories of eminent scientists by revealing the struggles and challenges they faced in their career as well as their experience within their institution.


TWAS/BioVisionAlexandria.Nxt 2014

From 05 Apr 2014 To 06 Apr 2014

TWAS/BVA.NXT 2014 will be the fourth BioVisionAlexandira.NXT to be organized in Alexandria. The Event will be held under the theme: “Research Ethics and Social Responsibility”. TWAS/BVA.NXT 2014 intends to explore research ethics in the developing world, and highlight its importance for society. It will also identify researchers’ responsibilities to overcome obstacles in developing countries using quality controlled and high standard research.

The Event will be held on 5 and 6 April 2014, where TWAS/BVA.NXT 2014 participants will be offered the opportunity to meet other young scientists and professionals from different parts of the world. This will allow them to share their views regarding the status, obstacles and concerns of ethical research in developing countries. They will also have the chance to discuss different problems regarding marketing of ideas, tools for efficient patent searches and Intellectual Property Rights. The best 10 young scientists will have the opportunity to present their innovative ideas and their impact on the development of societies. Furthermore, the young scientists will be invited to participate in BioVisionAlexandria Conference program.

Priority will be given to the best innovative research, and to research papers that meet the needs of the society.

Science and Technology Education for Sustainable Development in the Arab Region

The World Academy of Sciences for the advancement of science in developing countries' Arab Regional Office (TWAS-ARO) held its 9th Annual Meeting, 29-30 December 2013, at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. On the occasion of its annual meeting, an inter-disciplinary forum on Science and Education held under the theme: Science and Technology Education for Sustainable Development in the Arab Region.

This forum intended to bring together TWAS-ARO members and young affiliates, along with other distinguished speakers, to highlight the linkages between science, technology and society, through discussing issues related to quality, relevancy, and equity in the Arab countries' education systems which are essential to provide a generation that can face future challenges.

As scientific research is an important tool for the social development of any country, TWAS-ARO continued its support for young Arab researchers by holding a poster session where they can showcase their researches related to the theme. TWAS-ARO sponsored 10 outstanding young researchers, from different Arab countries, to present their projects/researches on the Science and Technology Education for Sustainable Development in the Arab Region.

TWAS 8th Annual Meeting “The Role of Science, Engineering and Technology in Achieving Sustainable Human Development in the Arab Region”

Following the same routine as every year TWAS-ARO held its 8th Annual Meeting, at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. A 2 days conference was held at the occasion of the 8th annual meeting with the title The Role of Science, Engineering and Technology in Achieving Sustainable Human Development in the Arab Region”.

As usual the Meeting intended to bring together TWAS-ARO members and young affiliates, along with other distinguished speakers, to tackle several issues related to the role of science, engineering and technology in achieving sustainable human development. The conference had 22 speakers and 100 participants.

TWAS-ARO selected and sponsored 10 outstanding young researchers from different Arab countries, to present their project/research on suitable human development in a Poster Session.

BioVisionAlexandria 20112 Conference

The BA Antiquities Museum displays archaeological findings discovered by the Italian mission in Nelson Island, Abu Qir, Alexandria. This new collection includes 200 exquisitely displayed utensils made out of pottery and faience, dating back to the Pharaonic and Ptolemaic eras. With the addition of this new extension, the Antiquities Museum currently comprises eight sections depicting the history of Egypt: Ancient Egyptian Antiquities, Greco-Roman Antiquities, Byzantine Antiquities, Islamic Antiquities, In the Afterlife, Excavations of the BA Site, in addition to the two extensions “Egypt’s Treasures through the Ages” and “Archaeological Findings from Nelson Island”.
