TWAS/BioVisionAlexandria.Nxt

TWAS/BioVisionAlexandria.NXT (BVA.NXT) initiative was launched during BioVisionAlexandria 2008, where the Bibliotheca Alexandrina hosted 99 young scientists from 27 developing countries to discuss the problems these scientists face when conducting research in their respective countries.

TWAS and TWAS-ARO provide funds for young scientists from developing countries to attend BioVision conferences, which are held on alternating years in Alexandria and Lyons, France. The conference has become a major international event for the biological sciences, attracting a diverse group of participants from government, universities and the private sector. The young scientists who attend not only have an opportunity to network with their peers but also hear presentations from eminent scientists and administrators from around the world.

TWAS/BVA.NXT 2012 was the third BioVisionAlexandira.NXT organized in Alexandria. The Event held under the theme: “Scientific Innovation in the Developing World: from Theory to Practice”. TWAS/BVA.NXT 2012 intended to explore scientific innovation in the developing world, and highlight its importance for sustainable development. It also identified innovative solutions to overcome different problems in developing countries. The Event held on 21 and 22 April 2012, and the TWAS/BVA.NXT 2012 participants offered the opportunity to meet other young scientists and professionals in the field of innovation from different parts of the world. This allowed them to share their views regarding the status, obstacles and future of innovative research in developing countries. They also had the chance to discuss different problems regarding funding sources, marketing of ideas, and intellectual property rights. 100 outstanding young scientists have been chosen to attend the Event and the best 10 had the opportunity to present their innovative ideas and their impact on the development of societies. Furthermore, the young scientists were invited to participate in BioVisionAlexandria Conference program. Priority was given to the best innovative research, and to research papers that met the needs of the society.
