TWAS's 11th General Conference and 20th General Meeting took place in Durban, South Africa, from 20 to 23 October 2009. The conference was hosted by the Academy of Science and Technology of South Africa and supported by South Africa's Department of Science and Technology. The three-day meeting was highlighted by a series of symposia, ranging from an in-depth look at the state of science and technology in South Africa to an examination of the impact that the global financial crisis is having on investments in science in the developing world.
