A Cuisine for all Tastes, and a Taste for all Cuisines

What is Alexandrian cuisine? Is it Mediterranean? What is Mediterranean cuisine? Or rather, is there such a thing as Mediterranean cuisine? Clifford Wright, the American author of A Mediterranean Feast, argues that there is no such thing. While an American will decide to cook a Mediterranean meal, the Egyptian, Sicilian, Syrian, Greek or Moroccan will simply prepare his or her own food, which is all quite different from each other (p. xv). Similarly, while an American, or even a Briton, will today say “Let’s go for Italian/Thai/Chinese”, it is understood that these meals will be partaken of outside the home, or, if brought into the house, it will be in the form of “delivery”.
