Bibliotheca Alexandrina in the 24th Annual Conference and Exhibition of the Special Libraries Association/Arabian Gulf Chapter

The 24th Annual Conference and Exhibition of the Special Libraries Association/Arabian Gulf Chapter (SLA/AGC), in cooperation with Sultan Qaboos University, will be held at Grand Millennium Muscat Hotel in Muscat, Oman, 6–8 March 2018. The title of the conference this year is “Big Data and Its Investment Prospects: The Way Towards Knowledge Integration”.

The Conference covers five main themes; Big Data and Information Industry, Managing Big Data, Big Data 2.0: Critical Roles for Libraries and Librarians, Data Science and LIS Programs, and Big Data and Practices in Developing Countries, is an attraction to expertise from the information community in the Gulf Area, the Arab region and all over the globe.

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA), the Arabic Library Standards, represented in Ms. Rania Osman, Head of Libraries of the Future Section at Bibliotheca Alexandrina is participating in the Conference with a presentation entitled “The Evolution of Data. From Data to Big Data. Are We Ready for the Big Data Technology in the Library Community?” The paper will come under the 5th Parallel Session “Big Data 2.0: Critical Roles for Libraries and Librarians” that will be held on Thursday, 8 March 2018, 9:00–11:00 am, Crystal Hall.

It is worth mentioning that the SLA is a specialized global organization founded in 1909 with its headquarter located in the USA, and with members from 75 countries, aiming at developing the concept of professional leadership for specialists in information centers and libraries, as well as shaping information policies for better serving the community. The AGC, established in 1992, with its headquarter located in the Kingdom of Bahrain, holds this annual conference in one of the Arabian Gulf Countries.
