Achievements/Rewards: - Awarded the Fulbright Alumni development grant, 2017. - Awarded the 2015 Ford Motor Company Conservation & Environmental Grants. - Awarded the a grant from UNESCO for organization of the workshop on “Ethnobotany and Assessment of Indigenous Knowledge in the Egyptian Western Desert” in , 2016. - Awarded the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education PhD scholarship AY2008-2012. - Awarded the Fulbright Commission Scholarship AY2007-2008, as a non-degree student in Idaho University, USA, for the year 2007-2008. - Awarded the Man and the Biosphere (MAB) program - UNESCO grant for Young Scientists (AY2000-2001). Community service:  Member of the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) Commission on Education and Communication (CEC)  Member of the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA)  Member of the Society for Conservation Biology (SCB).  Member of the International Biogeography Society (IBS).  Member of the American Society of Plant Biologists (ASPB)  Member of the international relations and internationalization Committee- Alexandria University Commitment to research the situation:  Participated in number of national and multinational research projects including: the research project “The Egyptian Encyclopedia Of The Wild Medicinal Plants”, 2016 to present.  Principal investigator (PI) of the research project “Gardening using endangered species as a mean to preserve species” supported by the 2015 Ford Motor Company Conservation & Environmental Grants.  Contribute to the Intergovernmental Platform for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services. (IPBES) Africa Regional Assessment as a Lead Author (LA) of the assessment and ILK expert, 2016 to present.  Deputy Principal Investigator (DPI) of the research team of the multinational Project of "Sustainable Management of Marginal Dry Lands, Egypt" (SUMAMAD)”, from December 2004 to July 2007. This project implemented in 8 countries and is coordinated by UNESCO, United Nations University and ICARDA.  Participated in the research projected titled "Conservation and Sustainable Use of Wild Medicinal Plants in Arid and Semi-arid Ecosystems, Egypt" sponsored by GEF, EEAA, UNDP, 2005-2006. Expertise and interests: Impact of global changes on plant species; rehabilitation of degraded ecosystems; management of biodiversity and natural resources; remote sensing & GIS as tools for assessing and monitoring natural resources; impact of pollution on plant distribution; bio/phytoremediation.
