Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP), a research center established in July 2003 in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, aims to play a significant role in the progress of science and technology in Egypt. A webinar on Online Learning for Agricultural and Rural Development

The Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP) affiliated to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina’s (BA) Academic Research Sector organizes a webinar on Online Learning for Agricultural and Rural Development, on Monday, 28 June 2021; 12:00 pm GMT+2.

This webinar will discuss how online and distance learning can contribute to tackling rural and agricultural development in Egypt. The webinar will present an overview of the DeVilag Project’s efforts in this regards.

Distinguished speakers will speak at the webinar: H.E. Dr. Hussein El-Atfy, Secretary General, Arab Water Council (AWC), and former Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Egypt; Prof. Hani Sewilam, Academic Director, Department of Engineering Hydrology, RWTH Aachen University, Germany; Prof. Mohamed Abdrabo, Head of Alexandria Research Centre for Adaptation to Climate Change,  Alexandria University, Egypt; and representatives from the DeVilag project.

This webinar is held under the framework of the ERASUMS+ project: Steering Migration through Sustainable Development Euro-Egyptian Program for Agriculture and Rural Development – DeVilag. This project is an international collaboration between the BA as represented by the CSSP, Academic Research Sector, and a number of Egyptian and European universities: RWTH Aachen, Germany; The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Sweden; University of Nicosia, Cyprus; Cairo University, Egypt; Fayoum University, Egypt; Heliopolis University, Egypt; The American University in Cairo, Egypt; and the Agricultural Research Center, Egypt.  

The DeVilag project aims to support the Egyptian rural community with the necessary qualified graduate and university expertise to improve agricultural productivity, enable more sustainable food production, develop poor villages, and enhance farmers’ income and their living conditions to prevent migration to cities or beyond.

TWAS Arab Regional Award 2021:Public Understanding and Popularization of Science

Public Understanding and Popularization of Science
Application Deadline: 10 July 2021

TWAS Regional Awards for 2021 will be awarded in recognition of individuals who have made significant contributions to popularize science, and have developed new strategies that serve the popularization of science and technology in developing countries.

TWAS Regional Award winner will receive a USD 3,000 cash award.

Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates for a TWAS-AREP Prize must be scientists who have been working and living in a developing country for at least ten years. They must meet at least one of the following qualifications:

  • Scientific research achievement of outstanding significance for the development of scientific thought.
  • Outstanding contribution to the application of Science and Technology to industry or to human well-being in a developing country.

The nominations will only be accepted and valid from:

  • Members of TWAS-AREP
  • Science Academies, National Research Councils, Universities, Scientific Institutions from the Arab Region

Note: Self nominations are not allowed.
