Amir Yassin

Biography:

  • Obtained his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in 2002 and 2004, respectively, from the Genetics Department, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Alexandria, Alexandria, Egypt
  • Has been teaching Genetics courses since 2003
  • Conducted his Ph.D studies (2005-2007) in the Ecole Doctorale Gènes, Gènomes, Cellules (GGC), Faculté des Sciences, Université Paris-Sud XI, Orsay, France on the ecological genetics and systematic of the drosophilid genus Zaprionus
  • From 2007 to 2008 he worked as Attaché temporaire d'enseignement et de recherche (A.T.E.R.) in the Département Systématique & Evolution, Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle, Paris, France and investigated the molecular systematics and phylogeography of Andean Schistocerca locusts
  • He has published 19 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals and 2 book chapters
  • Dr. Yassin has also a broad interest in understanding the current biodiversity crisis and in promoting the public awareness about the evolutionary mechanisms generating such diversity
  • He represented Egyptian youth in the World Summit of Sustainable Development in Johannesburg in 2002.
