James Edwards

Biography:

  • Dr. Edwards was employed in the Directorate for Biological Sciences at the US National Science Foundation for some 25 years.
  • From 2001-2007 he was detailed by NSF to Copenhagen to serve as the Executive Secretary of the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF).
  • Currently, Dr. Edwards sits on several international committees and boards.
  • Serves on the Expert Panel on Biodiversity Science of the Council of Canadian Academies.
  • He is a member of the Science Advisory Board of the European Distributed Institute of Taxonomy and the International Board of Advisors for the Research Centre for Biodiversity of Academia Sinica.
  • President of the JRS Biodiversity Foundation.
  • He was also the Chair of E-Biosphere 09, an international conference held in June 2009 that focused on developing a roadmap for interoperability among biodiversity informatics� projects and resources.
  • Dr. Edwards received his B.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of California at Berkeley.
  • His research interests are the systematics and functional morphology of amphibians and fishes, and biodiversity informatics.
