Nazar Hassan

Biography:

Nazar M. Hassan graduated from Khartoum University with a BSc Honors in Mechanical Engineering in 1986, then started his career in the energy field by joining Shell Oil Company, where he held several engineering jobs in the area of operations and quality control for Shell�s different production facilities. Nazar received his Master of Science in the area of renewable energy technologies, and his doctorate degree in Systems Engineering (Industrial) in 2003 focusing on Sustainable Energy Development, from University of Massachusetts Amherst, in the United States. Nazar then joined the Faculty of Engineering, Khartoum University, in 2004; and was also appointed as a consultant at the Sudanese Federal Ministry of Electricity, where he was mainly assigned the task to establish an Energy Efficiency/Renewable Energy and Rural Development Program in Sudan. Nazar joined UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia, in June 2006, as a senior economic officer within the Sustainable and Productivity Division (SDPD). He then joined UNESCO Regional Bureau for Sciences for the Arab States in Cairo, Egypt, early 2009, where he is in now in charge of the Science and Technology Unit. He has a number of published papers and reports in the area of systems optimization and strategic energy management for Sustainable Development.
