Magdy Madkour

Biography:

Magdy A. Madkour is the Head of Biotechnology, Arid Lands Agricultural Research Institute, Faculty of Agriculture, Ain Shams University, Egypt; and Senior Advisor, Bibliotheca Alexandrina. He supervises the Agricultural Genetic Engineering Research Institute (AGERI), ARC, Egypt. He was the Assistant Director-General for International Cooperation at the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), 2004-2006. Madkour obtained his PhD from the University of Wales, UK, in Physiological Plant Pathology. He is a member of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), AAAS , IS-MPMI, ISPMB and BIO. He also served as member of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) of the CGIAR (1996-2000), and as member of the Board of Trustees of ICARDA and IPGRI.
He received the AOAD Award for Scientific Excellence in 1999 and 2003, as well as the FAO World Food Day Award (2001), and two patents were issued in his name in 1996 with the Egyptian Patent Office, and in 1999 with USA Patent Office, for a novel biological insecticide.
He authored 140 scientific publications in international, regional and national refereed journals. He also contributed with chapters in seven textbooks published internationally.
