Born 1944, in Sudan Education includes first class honor degree in Civil Engineering from Khartoum, and DIC and PhD from Imperial College in London, in 1973. Various academic positions at many universities in Africa, Middle East, Europe and USA with full professorship since 1982. Worked for UNESCO (1993-2008) as regional Hydrologist in Cairo, Deputy-Secretary of the International Hydrological Program of UNESCO(IHP) in Paris, and Director of UNESCO Regional Offices in Cairo and Tehran. Following retirement from UNESCO in 2008, was elected as President of the Intergovernmental Council of the IHP of UNESCO until 5 July 2010. Still a member of the Bureau of the IHP and Member of the Governing Board of UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education. Served as a consultant to numerous UN Organizations, such as ESCWA, WB, WMO, UNU, UNESCO; National, Regional and International Consultancy firms; Organizations outside Sudan; Member of many scientific organizations, such as IAHR, IWRA, IAHS, IAH, ICID, AWC. Fellow of TWAS, African Academy of Science and awarded ISESCO AWARD for Excellence in Science. Currently, Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Khartoum and freelance Consultant.

The UN Role in Strengthening Dialogue between Researchers, Government and Stakeholders towards Sustainable Development in the Arab Region focusing on Science, Technology and Innovation. Focus will be on my 20 years experience with the UNESCO Scientific program mainly in the Arab Region and West Asia.
