Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP), a research center established in July 2003 in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, aims to play a significant role in the progress of science and technology in Egypt. The CSSP will help researchers and scientists to get the best support needed to advance their work through international collaborations.

Joint ASRT-BA Research Grants Hybrid Workshop

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) represented by the Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP) affiliated to BA Academic Research Sector, and the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT) are organizing the workshop entitled “Applied Research: From Theory to Market”, Monday and Tuesday 8–9 November 2021at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. This will mark the first workshop to be organized under the umbrella of the Joint ASRT-BA Grants program funded by the ASRT and moderated by the CSSP.

The workshop aims at exploring how postdoctoral researchers can commercializing their research, in respect to:

  • Research and Development: Problem Solving and Innovation.
  • Market your research and getting funds.

Target Audience:

Young Egyptians and African researchers of maximum age 45 years old, holding a PhD in one of the following fields:

  • Engineering
  • Food and Agriculture
  • Environment
  • Medicine

Venue and Timing:

It is a hybrid workshop where a number of selected participants from Alexandria, Egypt can attend in the workshop venue in the BA while the rest will join online.

On Monday and Tuesday 8–9 November 2021 at, 11:00 am

Registration:

  • Upload your CV (it shall not exceed three pages in English )
  • Motivation statement shall not more than 250 words in English

Joint ASRT-BA Research Grants Program For Egyptian and African Young Researchers

Application Deadline: 15 November 2021. 

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) and the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT) are pleased to announce that the Joint ASRT-BA Research Grants Program for Young Researchers “Second Call” is now open.

For post-doctoral young Egyptian and non-Egyptian African researchers under the age of 45 conducting an innovative applied research in one of the following areas:

  • Food and Agricultural Sciences
  • Environment
  • Engineering Sciences and Technologies 
  • Medical Sciences 

The value of the grant is up to EGP 250,000 per grant. 

Eligibility:

  • Candidates must be currently working at a public/private academic or research institution in Africa 
  • The research must be conducted in Egypt. 
  • Egyptian candidates must be currently engaged or can arrange to work on a joint research project with counterpart(s) outside his working institution.
  • African candidates must have Egyptian counterpart(s) working in Egypt.
  • The Grant maximum duration is 18 months.

TWAS Young Arab Scientist (YAS) Prize 2021

 Scientific and Technological Achievement in Engineering Sciences

Application Deadline (Extended): 7 November 2021.
 
Acknowledging the vital role Science and Technology plays in our societies, TWAS Arab Regional Partner has named the theme “Scientific and Technological Achievement in Engineering Sciences” for the 2021 Young Arab Scientist (YAS) Prize. The award aims at recognizing and rewarding the scientific work carried out by individual young scientists who live and work in developing countries.
 
The prize will be awarded to a young scientist from the Arab region who has accomplished an unusually notable research or technological effort in Engineering Sciences. The prize will be awarded for a substantial revision or modification of a scientific and technological principle or procedure, or an important improvement to the value of a device, activity, program, or public service.
 
The value of the prize is USD 3,000.
 
Eligibility: 
 
Applicants must:
  • Hold the nationality of an Arab country.
  • Be living and working in an Arab country and/or Developing country for at least the past three years.
  • Hold a PhD degree.
  • Have a proven track record in his/her field.
  • Be under 40 years of age by 1 January 2021
Nominations will ONLY be accepted from:
  • TWAS Arab Member
  • Science academies, national research councils, universities and scientific institutions from the Arab region
Nominations of women scientists are particularly encouraged

Bibliotheca Alexandrina Youth Sustainability Award

 Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) believes that youth can and will change the world to a better future and their engagement is critical to achieve in the sustainable development goals by 2030. Consequently, BA launched its award for Youth and sustainable development that is focusing on supporting the sustainable development and youth innovation in Africa.

Who can apply?

  • The award is opened for individuals: Arab and African youth below 35 years old, it may be a group of youth (maximum 5 persons) where at least one of the member should be less than 35 and should be the submitter of the project and the person in contact.
  • Every person can applied only once for the award whether as the main submitter or as partner in the project


Criteria of the submitted projects:

Innovative project.

  • Be ongoing and have been running for at least 2 last years.
  • Contribute to one or more of the following Sustainable development fields: Food and agriculture, Education, Health, Water and Climate Change.
  • Show the presence of evidences of results and measurable indicators in solving a problem in the chosen field from the above mentioned field.

Prizes are offered to best three projects

Submission for the award has to be via website and till 31 January 2022
