Egypt -Lebanon -EU Mobility Exchange NeTwork (ELEMENT): Scholarships Opportunities

Egypt was granted a new project through the Erasmus Mundus, Action 2 - Strand 1 programme titled "Egypt ? Lebanon ? EU Mobility Exchange NeTwork", abbreviated as "ELEMENT".

The ELEMENT Project offers scholarships for undergraduate, master, doctoral and post-doctoral students and staff. These scholarships will cover travel, insurance, participation costs and subsistence allowance.

Students and staff members from all universities in the ELEMENT partnership, both from the EU (Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Spain and United Kingdom), Egypt and Lebanon can apply for scholarships. The ELEMENT Scholarships are designed for:

1.Students and staff members and graduates from Egypt or Lebanon wanting to study at an EU University.
2.Students and staff members from EU Partner Universities wanting to study at an Egyptian or Lebanese Partner University.

2016 Call for applications of the TWAS Fellowships.

The TWAS Fellowships programme with over 470 PhD and 150 postdoctoral fellowships available annually in 10 developing countries with 19 programme partners is said to be the largest programme of its kind worldwide.

The 2016 TWAS Postgraduate and Postdoctoral Fellowships call for applications in all fields of the Natural Sciences is now open for majority of the programmes.

EU Funding Opportunities: Fellowships

European Commission has announced the Open call for proposal for the Individual Fellowship Scheme of Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) under . Horizon 2020 Programme

This action is meant to support individual researchers from anywhere in the world. Mobility across borders is a must and Cross-sectoral mobility is also encouraged.

Experienced researchers (Researchers with doctoral degree or at least four years? full-time research experience by the time of the call deadline) can apply based on an application prepared jointly by the researcher and host organisation in an academic or non-academic sector.

All Individual Fellowships are expected to strengthen the contact network of both the researcher and the host organisation(s), to support the development of researcher?s career and to enhance and maximize their contribution to the knowledge-based economy and society. This grant supports an allowance to cover living, travel and family costs of the Fellow - as illustrated in the table hereinafter - and also the research costs and overheads of the host organisation(s) (usually a university, research center or a company in Europe).

BA African Networks

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) aims to rise to the digital challenge in order to develop African innovation through the use of science and technology in networks that extend throughout Africa. The new goal set by the BA is to connect those with common interests and expertise to hasten the development of knowledge and enable immediate sharing of knowledge and contributions.It is the role of the BA, and its duty, to act as "the international hub" to several significant academic and research networks, which aim to connect the rising future generations of teachers and researchers in Africa.

The BA African Networks are divided into five communities of interest: Public Health, Agriculture, Environment, ICT, and Research methods.

In each network, there is a section called "R & R" (for Research & Reports) that will mention and highlight some recent research results and international reports. This section and its data are separate from the occasional short essay posted under the heading "Reflections". Some pointers on "Conferences and Fellowships" are also provided. Additionally, the BA African Networks provide its visitors with a section of information on the old BA, labeled "Ancient Wisdom"; a section of information on the current and planned activities of the new BA, called "Alexandrian Activities"; as well as a "Fun Facts" section.

GERSS - GERMAN EGYPTIAN RESEARCH SHORT TERM SCHOLARSHIPS

The German Egyptian Research Short term Scholarship GERSS is a program jointly funded by the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) and the German Academic Exchange Service, Bonn (DAAD) in order to finance short term scholarships for young Egyptian scientists in Germany. The target group of the program are researchers enrolled in MSc, PhD programs and young Post-Doctoral candidates. The scholarships may be awarded for a period from three to six months.

The scholarship shall enable advanced graduate students and young scientists to pursue part of their master's, doctoral or post-doctoral research in a specific research project at German universities, archives, libraries or research institutes. Henceforth, the GERSS program has changed from bi-annual to an annual system. The next call for application is expected on 1st of November 2016 and the deadline on 15th of February 2017.

TWAS, the academy of sciences for the developing world, www.twas.org, is now accepting applications for its postgraduate, postdoctoral, visiting scholars and advanced research fellowship programs. The fellowships are offered to scientists from developing countries and are tenable at centers of excellence in various countries in the South, including Brazil, China, India, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico, Pakistan and Thailand.

Eligible fields include: agricultural and biological sciences, medical and health sciences, chemistry, engineering, astronomy, space and earth sciences, mathematics and physics.

Higher Education Funding Opportunities in the Arab Region

The BA produced the "Higher Education Funding Opportunities in the Arab Region "online Directory.

This Directory is the outcome of a research project conducted by a group of young researchers in the Resource Development Department.

The project was generously supported by the Ford Foundation Regional Office in Cairo.

The purpose of the Directory is to help students and higher education institutes to learn about existing local and regional donors supporting higher education in 12 Arab countries.

The Directory also aims to provide an access point to donors allowing them to disseminate information about their activities, observe other donors? activities, and most importantly to pave the way for the creation of fruitful partnerships between them.

Summer School: the exchange of knowledge and the awareness on EU water research and technology state of the art

Announcement Date: 26 June 2011

Time and date

The summer school will be held in Barcelona, Spain between the 26th and the 30th of September, 2011. Participants are expected to arrive the afternoon before, on the 25th of September.

Venue

Classes will be hosted by ACC1O in Barcelona and will be held under the address: Passeig de GRACIA, 129, 08008, Barcelona, Spain. Who many attend Young researchers (PhD, PostDoc), water experts from industry and SMEs, and water practitioners from relevant stakeholders primarily from EU countries, EU associated countries and EU neighbouring countries.

Examples for the main stakeholder entities from which participants are selected from:

  • European Ministries of Environment, Research and Enterprises;
  • National public agencies related to R&D (focused on water);
  • Universities, Research Centres and other Institutions involved in Water R&D and Innovation;
  • Water Industrial associations;
  • European Platforms (in particular Water Platform);
  • Large and Small Companies known to be involved in Water Research and innovation.


Selection criteria

A maximum number of 25 participants will be selected based on the following criteria:

1.Their familiarity with the topics pertaining to the STREAM Summer Schools
2.Their achievement in water related fields research;
3.They are representatives of entities considered as stakeholders;
4.Good knowledge of English.

Scholarship

STREAM is currently seeking for the partnership or sponsorship of outside actors to provide few scholarships. Additional information to applicants on existing scholarship programmes will also be provided.

TWAS, the academy of sciences for the developing world www.twas.org is now accepting applications for its postgraduate, postdoctoral, visiting scholars and advanced research fellowship programmes.

Two new programmes with Iran and Pakistan are launched this year, with the Iranian Research Organization for Science and Technology (IROST) and the National Centre for Physics (NCP).

Eligible fields of the different programmes include one or more of the following: agricultural and biological sciences, medical and health sciences, chemistry, engineering, astronomy, space and earth sciences, mathematics and physics.

The U.S. National Academies Call for Application: Arab-American Frontiers Symposium in partnership with Masdar Institute

November 5-7, 2016


The U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, and Masdar Institute of Science and Technology are pleased to announce the Fourth Arab American Frontiers of Science, Engineering and Medicine Symposium. The upcoming meeting will be hosted in Abu Dhabi on November 5 to 7, 2016 by Masdar Institute, in partnership with Khalifa University, NYU Abu Dhabi and Petroleum Institute. The call for applications is now open and scientists, engineers and medical professionals from the U.S. and the Arab region are invited to submit their application online before the deadline of June, 30, 2016.

This program brings together outstanding young scientists, engineers, and medical professionals, between the ages of 30 and 45, from the United States and the 22 countries of the Arab League for a series of symposia to discuss exciting advances and opportunities in their fields. The goal of these meetings is to enhance scientific exchange and dialogue among young researchers in Arab countries and the United States, including the Arab science diaspora, and through this interaction facilitate research collaboration within and beyond the region.

We strongly encourage young scientists, engineers and medical professionals working on related research to apply to this truly pluri-disciplinary meeting, as long as they fulfill the eligibility criteria. Each general participant will also have the opportunity to present his or her research during poster sessions. More details on the fourth symposium, organization and program can be found here.
