Support to Culture Diversity and Creativity in Egypt holds a conference to conclude its activities between 14–16 of November

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina is organizing a three-day high-profile conference between 14–16 of November at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Conference Center, to conclude the events of the Support to Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt program. The program, which started two years earlier in November 2013, is a joint project between the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and European Union. Inspired by the changing reality of the cultural and political scene in Egypt, it aimed to broaden the scope of cultural projects in Egypt, and to promote artistic and cultural education. It also sought to use the rich cultural heritage of Egypt and human capital to benefit from arts and culture as a strong support element to the development of the country.
Based on three main pillars, the program has successfully completed a number of activities, categorized under the themes of: “Cultural Debates”, “Mapping”, “Arts in the Classroom”, “North and South”, “Bayt al-Sinnari” and “Kom el Dikka”. These activities focused on fostering the dialogue between cultures, identifying and profiling cultural actors in the country, nurturing existing talents by creating initiatives for youth and young students, boosting the activities of cultural institutions, and reaffirming the important link between culture and development. More significantly, and through a think-tank consisting of young and senior intellectuals; cultural operators; artists; ministry officials and public authorities, the program successfully managed to create an innovative cultural agenda and a future policy for the Egyptian culture, to be presented to the concerned authorities for discussion and adoption.
Entitled “Suggestions for a Framework of a National Cultural Policy in Egypt”, the conference aims to highlight and disseminate the work of the think-tank, including the policy papers and the produced documents. The conference will also serve as the main public event of the program, showcasing the efforts and results of the whole program. It will be accompanied by an exhibition that features the main six activities of the program and captures the work of the participants.
The conference will receive extensive media coverage, in order to draw attention to the continuation to the follow up work to be done in support of the activities that were completed, and provide exposure to the newly discovered talents throughout Egypt. A large and diversified number of participants are invited to attend the event, including public figures, artists, ministry officials, and intellectuals, as well as representatives from national and international cultural bodies.
