From 01 Jul 2015 To 01 Jul 2015 Bayt Al-Sinnari, Cairo

In collaboration with the European Union, and within the framework of the Support to Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt program, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) is organizing a new cultural debate under the title of “Culture and Sociology”. The debate will be held on Wednesday, the 1st of July 2015, at the historical building of Bayt Al-Sinnari in Sayeda Zeinab district in Cairo, and is scheduled to start at 4:00 pm.

The debate is regarded the 11th event implemented under the theme of Cultural Debates; one of the main activities fostered by the program Support to Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt. The activity organizes several events at which important issues and topics related to improving the cultural sector in Egypt are raised, and where experts and policy makers are invited to discuss and make recommendations regarding drafting a national cultural policy for Egypt.

Acknowledging the major role the culture plays in defining and perceiving sociology, the 11th debate focuses on examining the relationship between these two fields, and their influence upon one another. Comprised of two sessions, the debate starts with addressing the status of sociology and the role that cultural institutions and tools play in its development. The meeting also discusses the role of intellectuals and the challenges they face within this field. Finally, it will proceed to explore the solutions put forward to address the cultural crises related with the field of sociology.

The event will be concluded at 7 pm, and will be followed by an Iftar banquet at Bayt Al-Sinnari.
