Directed by Michael Radford

A 16th century Venetian merchant borrows money from a Jewish usurer to help a friend of his wed the woman he loves. The usurer agrees to lend him the money on one condition: if the money is not paid back by an appointed time, he will get a pound of his flesh in return.
