Dr. Essam el-Saeed, Director of the BA Center for Calligraphy Studies, and Dr. Mohamed Hassan, one of the center’s researchers, have participated in The Renewal of the Cultural Discourse Forum with a research paper, titled “Writings and Manuscripts: Gateways to Creative Cultural Industries”. The forum was held at the Supreme Council of Culture, under the aegis of the Egyptian Minister of Culture Helmy el-Namnam, from 29 to 31 May 2016.

The research paper tackled the role and importance of writings and manuscripts as main elements of the creative industry. These elements are crucial components of the structure of Egyptian and Arab soft power, as they have reflected the vital and practical affinity among the creative arts, concerned with writings and manuscripts, throughout their history.

In order to properly understand the Egyptian cultural awareness, it is necessary to examine writings and manuscripts and their different stages of development in Egypt and to reveal their linguistic and artistic output. The paper includes and discusses a group of various writings and inscriptions in order to develop the society’s cultural awareness and to become a gateway to creative industries in Egypt.
