As part of its efforts to disseminate the French language and francophone culture, the BA Center of Francophone Activities (CAF) is organizing two simultaneous events to be held in October. From 16 to 18 October 2016, a conference titled “Two Centuries of Egyptian-French Relations: Common Destiny and Prospects” will be held along with a festival showcasing the various professions that are prevalent in Francophone countries.

The festival will feature musical bands, such as Genawa and West El Balad, and will also include numerous workshops for francophone school students from Alexandria and Cairo. These workshops aim to portray the value of handiworks and crafts. The festival will be open to the public and will be held at the BA Plaza.

The “Two Centuries of Egyptian-French Relations: Common Destiny and Prospects” Conference aims to shed light on Egyptian-French historical, political, and cultural relations. Held under the aegis of the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the French Embassy in Egypt, the French Chamber of Commerce in Egypt, and the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism, the two-day conference will include six sessions and will host an elite group of speakers from different fields. Simultaneous interpretation from French into Arabic will be provided during each session.

The CAF will also curate two exhibitions, “Alexandria Tram” and “Portraits of French Antiquities in Egypt”, on the margins of the conference. Générik Vapeur, a French troupe specializing in street theater, will conclude the festivities with a performance that will extend from the BA Plaza, through the Alexandria Corniche Road, and all the way to Qaitbay Castle.
