140 Cultural Event and 500 Participants at the Alexandria International Book Fair

Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the BA; Helmy El-Namnam, Minister of Culture; and Dr. Haitham al-Hajj Ali, Head of the General Egyptian Book Organization (GEBO), are going to inaugurate the Alexandria International Book Fair on 23 March 2017 at 12:00 noon. This year’s Fair is organized by the collaborative efforts of the BA and the GEBO, and it will be held at two venues: the BA Plaza and Kouta Exhibition Land.

The Book fair will include over 140 cultural activity covering a range of topics, such as art, literature, media, and social science. Several renowned Egyptian artists, actors, journalists, and public figures will be participating in and contributing to this year’s events.

The Fair’s inauguration activities will include a discussion and presentation on The Children of Egypt: The Land of the Nile by Italian author Davide Lorenzon, set to be held at 5:00 pm. Dr. Giuseppina Capriotti, Head of the Centro Archeologico Italiano (Italian Archaeological Center) in Cairo, and Dr. Barbara Maurina of the Rovereto Civic Museum will be key speakers in the book discussion. A show from the International Festival of Archaeological Film of Rovereto will then ensue, curated by Dr. Barbara Maurina. A story reading session by author Sherine Talaat is going to be held at 7:00 pm, followed by a folk arts performance at Kouta Exhibition Land by a folk troupe from one of Alexandria’s cultural palaces.
