The Plaza of Civilization, the BACC, the Planetarium and the main Library are interconnected and overlook the sea . The plaza is planted with olive trees, providing a powerful symbol of peace, tolerance, rationality, understanding and dialogue.

The Plaza of Civilization has works of art and statuary. The statuary are of a soaring statue of “Prometheus bearing fire”, standing amidst the olive trees; the colossus of Ptolemy II, salvaged from the Mediterranean, standing  at the entrance next to the Conference Center; and a bust of Alexander the Great, also standing outside the entrance to the Conference Center.

The Plaza is a place of reflection but it is also used for cultural events, especially in the summer, during which it is used for outdoor performances or exhibitions and special occasions.
