For the third year, the PSC has celebrated the World Environment Day, with the aim to seize this opportunity to rally students to participate in the Environmental Creativity Celebration. The Event aimed at raising the students’ environmental awareness by encouraging them to direct their talents and skills in developing environmental artwork and inventions.

The theme for WED 2010 is “Many Species, One Planet One Future.” The theme echoes the urgent call to conserve the diversity of life on our planet. A world without biodiversity is a very bleak prospect. Millions of people and millions of species all share the same planet, and only together can we enjoy a safer and more prosperous future.
The BA organized the WED 2010 on Monday, 14 June 2010. An environmental awareness village was set up on the BA plaza. The village was theme decorated to open the public eyes to the beauty of our environment. Through hands on activities WED 2010 demonstrated what biodiversity is, where we can find it and how to save it through our daily habits and how we can change to be more environmental friendly.
The village was divided into five zones; activity zone, Bibliotheca Alexandrina zone, community zone and exhibitions zone. Besides, there was the Zero Energy House which was placed on the BA plaza. It was designed with the highest energy efficient practices with energy supplied through solar panels, a wind mill and hydro power.
In the weeks prior to WED, several contests were organized with preparatory schools in the Governorate of Alexandria. A jury evaluated the entries and selected the winners. All the entries were displayed throughout the day of the event.

World Environment Day could be one of the events that would introduce a new concept and way of thinking to the Egyptian public that would eventually end up benefiting our planet. It has been a successful event organized for the third time at the BA yet still hopefully it will turn out better every year than the prior year.
