The “Higher Education Funding Opportunities in the Arab Region” or “HE Opportunities” is an On-line portal that serves Arab higher education students and institutions to learn about available higher education opportunities through an On-line Directory. Students can also benefit from an On-line training section that provides them with guidelines on the requirements of scholarships. Moreover, the Website users could interact with each other, as well as with donors through an On-line forum.

Who produced and funded this Website?
The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) produced this Website with the generous support of the Ford Foundation Regional Office in Cairo.

What is meant by Higher Education?
Higher Education (HE) could be defined as the education beyond the secondary level. You can visit the Glossary page as it includes definitions of other related common terms used in this Website.

What are the opportunities presented in this Website?
Scholarships, fellowships, training, internships, grants and/or loans.

Does the “HE Opportunities” itself provide scholarships, grants or any other kind of support?
No, this Website is not a funding body and does not provide scholarships, grants or any other kind of support. The “HE Opportunities” facilitates knowing about available opportunities by showcasing them and guides fund-seekers how to access them.

How can I use this Website to find an opportunity?
You can either use the advanced search engine on the Homepage, or navigate the Donors page either by country or by organization name. Afterwards, it will be your responsibility to identify the opportunity that suites you from the List of Organizations that appears. You could also watch the illustrating video on the Homepage for additional information. In addition, you can check regularly the Announcements section, and the Project’s pages on Facebook and Twitter for upcoming deadlines.

How can I identify an opportunity that suites my criteria from the List of Organizations that appears in the search results?
Please read carefully each donor profile as each one of them has its own program, selection criteria and application procedures. You have to identify the program that is most suitable for you and that meets your needs and qualifications; then send your application following the donor’s guidelines.

What is the advanced search engine, and how can I use it?
The advanced search engine is illustrated through the four boxes available at the end of the Homepage. It assists you to narrow the results of your search for an opportunity by inserting your criteria. You could also read the illustration preceding the advanced search and/or watch the video on the Homepage for illustration.

I am an Arab; however, I cannot find my nationality in the “Country of Origin” box?
The Website is mainly designed to target higher education students and institutions in 13 Arab countries which are Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates. However, if you have another nationality you could still benefit from this Website, as some donors located in the Directory provide their support to students from all over the Arab region.

Why is it not possible to select any category from those under the "Degree" and "Field of Study" boxes?
The "Degree" and "Field of Study" boxes are ONLY active when “Scholarships” is selected under "Type of Support".

Can I send you my personal criteria to find a suitable opportunity for me? Could you submit a request on my behalf?
