Bibliotheca Alexandrina Hosts the Digitizing Arabic Text Workshop

In partnership with Yale University, the BA will host the Digitizing Arabic Text Workshop in the period from 3-7 December 2007. Attendees from Yale University will be offered training in the digitizing, OCRing and workflow techniques of Arabic text. Provided by BA’s digital laboratory experts and ISIS staff, the workshop will include lectures, tutorials, and hands-on laboratory sessions.

This workshop is supported by funding from the US Department of Education, as part of the Project AMEEL grant (Arabic and Middle Eastern Electronic Library). Additional support is provided by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and the Yale Library.

The goal of the workshop is to provide a training course on the digitization techniques and approaches of Arabic text, which will help propagate the digitization of Arabic language books worldwide.
