Vincenzo  Lipardi

President, European Network of Science Centers and Museums (ECSITE) - Fondazione IDIS-Città della Scienza


Biography:

Graduated in Philosophy, after a work experience in the publishing company CUEN, he was amongst the initiators of the science event Futuro Remoto. A journey between science and science-fiction (1987) and of Fondazione IDIS-Città della Scienza (1990) where he has been the General Director (1991-2005). He has been project manager for the realization of Città della Scienza, the first Italian science centre. Deeply involved in the Ecsite community, he has been member of the Board, Treasurer and Vice President. He has been project leader in several European projects and promoter of International cooperation in Middle East for the establishment of a Science Centre at the Al Quds University in East Jerusalem, and in Africa for the Science Festival in Nigeria Vincenzo Lipardi is currently head of the Institutional Communication Department at the Municipality of Naples. He is a trustee of Fondazione IDIS-Città della Scienza and delegate for International Affairs and Stategy.

Presentation Abstract:

Empowering our people with science and its languages: The Role of Science Centers in establishing Knowledge-Based Societies,in the NAMES regions, will be the framework of the session. The session will open the debate about the meaning of "Knowledge-based society" in different parts of the word and how to build it, its opportunities and risks. Thanks to the contribution of different actors, for their typology and geographical origin, the sessione will emphasize the different approaches, the common goals and the exchange of experiences and practises. In particular the session will focus on science centres, their capacity to respond to the society needs and to become an imbedded part of the territory itself.
