"Astronomy Olympiad" competition
01 February 2009 - 28 March 2009

The Astronomy Olympiad is a competition targeting school students, 10-13 years of age, that aims to stimulate enthusiasm and interest in astronomy.

The Astronomy Olympiad is an excellent opportunity for applying basics of astronomy, mathematics, science, computer science, social studies, and language to solve the competition’s required challenges. Through hands-on activities, research and observation students will demonstrate their creativity, as well as their problem solving and teamwork skills.

The competition was among 12 teams from different schools in Alexandria governorate. Each team consisted of 5 students and 1 teacher. The competition was divided into a number of rounds where every 2 teams competed to accomplish a task and get points for each task. The team that collected the highest number of points won the first place.

The winners of the three first spots won free places in the upcoming Astro-Camp trip, the details of which were announced shortly on the PSC website.
