"Scouts Torch" festivity
06 June 2007

Scouts around the world will gather as the sun rises to celebrate one hundred years since Lord Baden-Powell ran his experimental scout camp on Brown sea Island (UK). The flame will spread the spirit of the founder of the Girl Guide/Girl Scout Movement, Lord Baden-Powell, all over the world and it will also symbolize "The flame of Peace 2007". The main idea of the project is to carry a flame by means of an overland or sea journey. The Flame will take the shortest route, i.e. via Ethiopia, Sudan, and Egypt, up to Alexandria. The flame will be then carried by Scouts and Guides through Greece, Italy, France, Belgium, and finally the UK, where it will arrive on 31 July 2007, the eve of Scouting sunrise.

On the occasion of the "Scouts Torch" passing through Alexandria on 6 June 2007, the BA Planetarium Science Center is organizing a festivity, from 18:00 to 21:00 pm, that includes speeches, presentations, shows, and the official Torch-passing ceremony. The event is open to the public.
