Electronics

This workshop deals with the electronic components (resistors, transistors, coils, ... etc.). It starts with a brief description about the history of electricity and electronics, then explores the usage of each component, and ends with demonstrating a complicated electronic circuit.

 

The workshop takes place twice a day, at 10:00 am and at 12:00 pm.

Brain Teasers

From: 24 June 2007 To: 28 June 2007 Age Group: 6 -16 years

The brain is not a passive recipient of knowledge. In order to learn new information the brain must be able to focus on important cues and hold them in its short-term memory. The objective of this workshop is to help children exercise their brains with puzzles, logic as well as strategy games to sharpen their critical thinking and problem-solving skills.   

 

The workshop takes place twice a day, at 10:00 am and at 12:00 pm.

Mummification

In ancient Egypt, mummification was the preparation of the body for the afterlife. It was believed that the soul of the deceased would be preserved forever and that the person would be able live in the afterlife. Mummification was a ritual that took many days and consisted of many different steps to complete the task.

 

What is mummification? Why and how it was done in ancient Egypt? Join our workshop to learn all this and try mummification on a fish.

Fun with Science

"Fun with science" workshops evolves around a  series of fables containing messages that aim to give children a scientific base, and enabling them to apply scientific knowledge as a creative tool. Currently available workshops include: Walking on Water, Orange Soap, and the Sugar Tree. Through these fables children become aware of their value in society and that they can play an important role in developing innovative solutions to the challenges of the modern world starting with the local community level.

 

A major theme of "fun with science" workshops is the introduction of "systems thinking". Children quickly learn that everything in the world is interconnected and that thinking systematically influences choices and behavior. Through these fables children become aware of their value in society and that they can play an important role in developing innovative solutions to the challenges of the modern world starting at the local community level.

Biology Enzymes

Human Body

The "Human Body" is a series of workshops evolving around the different body systems (circulatory, respiratory, digestive, urinary, skeleton, etc.), as well as the five senses. The workshops aim to give school students a broader understanding of the different body systems.

RoboALEX

The RoboAlex center at the ALEXploratrium offers  compelling hands-on robotic challenges. Guided by animators, the participating groups design, program, and test robots on a special playing field. It is a process very similar to the one applied by cutting-edge companies when they develop new products.

Ionospheric Physics & Application

The Planetarium Science Center at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in cooperation with Cairo University and International Center for Theoretical Physics (Trieste) are organizing a scientific workshop on Ionospheric Physics and Applications (2ND WORKSHOP ON IONOSPHERIC PHYSICS). In this workshop guest speakers from international center for theoretical physics Trieste, astronomical observatory of Trieste, National institute of geophysics and Vulcan Logy Roma, Italy are participating. The workshop will cover sessions for submitted papers, practical sessions on development related to region.
