Evaluation of the self-employment for Gecekondu Women Project

Document type: report
Download file(s): 115007 (609 KB)
Abstract: This paper looks at Turkey's first micro-credit project aimed at women. It tells the story of how the Foundation for the Support of Women's Work (FSWW) came up with the idea of the project. It describes the reasons why the women need loans, what they do with money, and how they cope with running a household and a business at the same time. The underlying message is that, given a little initial support, women living in poverty can bring about a better quality of life for themselves, their families and their environment.
