he Nationwide Inpatient Sample is a 20% sample of all U.S hospitals conducted by the Agency for Health Care and Policy Research (AHCPR). This sample contains all demographics, diagnoses and procedures, admissions and discharge data, and all inpatient records. It is weighted so that the data can be used to calculate national estimates. This is important for exposure or use data.
HMOs- These provide important computerized and linked data on patients. Examples are the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and Kaiser Permanente.
