Condoms are sometimes understood to diminish sexual pleasure and even manhood and are inconvenient to use. Young women are better disposed to condoms than men, yet some girls object to condoms declaring that they are not prostitutes. Condoms tend to be associated with conflict in relationships and discussion about condom use in relationships raises questions of mistrust.

Attitudinal factors and issues of mistrust thus relate mainly to the introduction of condoms into sexual practice. If both partners are indeed HIV-free, strict monogamy without condoms is freedom from AIDS. Nonetheless, sophisticated arguments are not an issue since perhaps less than 10 % are consistently using condoms.
