Erythrocyte parameters are not normally affected during this stage of the disease. Severe thrombocytopenia, leukopenia and anemia are most frequently seen during the chronic stage of CME. Severe pancytopenia is the hallmark of the severe chronic phase, occurring as a result of suppressed hypocellular bone marrow.
