Accidents and trauma are thought to be a major cause of morbidity and mortality of field volunteers. The threat may be from the present disaster or from a past conflict. Inevitably, motor vehicle and pedestrian accidents are common. Other modes of travel can also be problematic, such as unscheduled aircraft or boats.
