Census data are very good sources of information. However, be aware that it is not easy to count everyone, nor, does everyone want to be counted. Extraordinary efforts are taken to get everyone counted.
Current issues about census data involve the controversy over replacing enumerating with sampling (statistician favorite), and new definitions for race and ethnicity (for resource allocation purposes).  Since counting can be done in so many ways,  and interracial marriages are on the rise, issues will remain.
