The diabetic sub-group analyses of the SHEP and Syst-Eur studies, showed a fall in blood pressure of around 10/3mmHg reduced coronary heart disease risk by some 50-60%. This is a clear example of the treatment paradox, that the benefits of anti-hypertensive therapy may be independent of blood pressure reduction.
