As is often the case in non-communicable diseases & conditions self-management, including medication adherence, is a component of the treatment plan. Thus, self-management support as described in the Chronic Care Model is an important component of medication model. If self-management includes a psychomotor skill such as administering a shot or using an inhaler, the patient will need to be competent.  Competence is related to one’s need to adapt to new challenges that originate from cognitive and motor skills. Competence is strengthened by praise & positive feedback a nurse gives to the patient as new skills are return demonstrated.
