Presentation Abstract:

The reproduction of books when the press was not invented: Since 313 AD, which states the date of enactment 'edict of Constantine, which proclaimed freedom of worship for Christians, we are witnessing a rapid and substantial development of the written text and, consequently, the study of writing. In order to study, then it became necessary for the reproduction of books and, since at that time had not yet been invented printing, the books could only be played by copying them by hand hence, the figure of the scribe, the humble and anonymous monks who had role to play patiently hand the Holy Scriptures, Greek and Latin works, texts of great historians, poets and naturalists, and thanks to the Roman Cassiodorus, aware of how important it was that the culture and traditions of ancient civilizations is not lost, even texts profane.
